Sokolatenia Galatopita: A Greek Chocolate Milk Pie without Filo

Chocolate Galatopita - Ingredients

  • 750 ml of milk
  • 60 gr. of fine semolina
  • 20 gr. of cornflour
  • 2 eggs, plus 1 for topping
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 vanilla extract
  • The zest of a lemon
  • 60 gr. of butter, iced and cut into cubes
  • 170 gr. of chocolate couverture, cut into pieces
  • 150 gr. of sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for topping
  • 3 tbsp of cocoa
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon 

Chocolate Galatopita - How to Make

  1. Start this Greek chocolate milk pie by heating the milk in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. When it heats up well, remove it from the heat, stir and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix the semolina, cornflour, cocoa, eggs, salt, vanilla, and lemon zest.
  4. Add a cup of the hot milk, and mix well with a whisk. Now pour it into the pot with the milk and mix very well.
  5. Place the pot over low temperature and stir until the cream thickens.
  6. When the cream thickens, remove from the heat and add the butter and the couverture chocolate. Stir gently.
  7. Finally, add the sugar and stir until all ingredients blend well.
  8. Preheat oven to 180° C.
  9. Butter a baking pan (ideally 27 cm diameter) and pour the mixture.
  10. For the topping, mix well one egg, the sugar, and 1 tablespoon of water, and pour it over the cream to go all over the surface.
  11. Bake for about 45 minutes at 180° C.
  12. Remove the chocolate galatopita and allow cooling.
  13. Serve with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
