Tirosalata: A Traditional Greek Feta Salad

Tirosalata (or tyrosalata), which literally means cheese salad, is a popular Greek dip. This feta cheese spread, which happens to be my favorite one, is a delicious traditional Greek appetizer you will find in every tavern, and this recipe will teach you how to make it.

This tirosalata recipe requires the following ingredients: Greek feta cheese, ricotta cheese, bell pepper, garlic, Greek olive oil, vinegar, oregano, and pepper. Even though these are the ingredients I use for this recipe, you can experiment with the ingredients until you obtain your desired outcome. First, always use the original Greek feta cheese as all other countries just copy the trademark without the same quality taste. Second, this tirosalata recipe also contains ricotta cheese. Tirosalata - Ingredients

  • 500 g of Greek feta cheese, crumbled.
  • 250 g of ricotta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of green bell pepper finely chopped.
  • ½ teaspoon of garlic, finely chopped.
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons of Greek olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon of dried oregano


Tirosalata - How to make

  1. Take a bowl and cut the feta into small pieces either with your hands or with the help of a grater.
  2. Add the ricotta cheese and the following ingredients and with a spoon mix the ingredients well.
  3. Taste the tirosalata to see if any additional garlic or pepper is needed.
  4. Serve
