Tirokroketes – A Traditional Greek Cheese Ball Recipe

If you are a Greek cheese lover, there are two recipes you need to learn! The first one is the saganaki. The second one is tirokroketes!  Tirokroketes is the name of the Greek fried cheese balls. This is a mouthwatering appetizer that you can serve at any occasion, special or not. Even your children will love these addicting fried cheese balls which makes them ideal even for your kid’s party!

I first tried tirokroketes when I was a college student and I was spending my summer vacation days with a friend at his homeland, the beautiful island of Chios. It was a hot day and my friend’s grandmother was making a launch for us. She served tirokroketes as an appetizer. I couldn’t stop eating them! They were so delicious that I had to ask her if she could share her recipe with me, so I can give it to my mother. “The secret of tirokroketes” she said, “is to make them crispy on the outside and creamy in the inside.” In order to achieve this, you don’t have to fill the pan with the frying oil and when you fry them you need to let space among the tirokroketes.

To make tirokroketes you need the following ingredients: feta, graviera, gouda, egg, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and frying oil.

This tirokroketes recipe, which gives around 20 pieces, takes around 15 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to make.
