Cocoa-Kissed Kourabiedes: Greek Christmas Butter Cookies with a Chocolaty Twist

 Kourabiedes with cocoa (κουραμπιέδες με κακάο) are the Greek Christmas butter cookies with cocoa. This unique version of kourabiedes will surely impress you and your guests with their fantastic taste.

These unique, and delicious kourabiedes require only 6 ingredients. To make them you need cow butter, powdered sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and Cointreau liqueur. 

It is the perfect combination between cointreau liqueur and the rich chocolate flavor of the fine cocoa that makes these butter cookies so amazing. Cointreau is an orange-flavoured liqueur produced in Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France. Although it is consumed as an apéritif and as a component of several well-known cocktails, it adds a great and festive flavor to these kourabiedes. 

This kourabiedes with cocoa recipe which takes one hour to prepare and 30 minutes to bake, gives around 35 pieces.

Kourabiedes with Cocoa - Ingredients

  • 300 g of cow butter
  • 100 g of powdered sugar, plus additional for topping
  • 570 g of flour for all uses
  • 70 g of cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 shot of brand
  • 3 spoons of Cointreau liqueur


Kourabiedes with Cocoa - How to Make

  1. In the mixer beat the butter with the sugar until fluffy, at the highest speed for about 20 minutes. When done, the mixture should look like whipped cream.
  2. In a large bowl, sift the flour, cocoa, and baking powder. 
  3. Reduce the speed of the mixer and slowly add the flour mixture. 
  4. Add the liqueur and continue mixing until you have a homogeneous and soft mixture.
  5. Preheat your oven to 160°C. 
  6. Take a baking pan and cover it with parchment paper or an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Form the dough into round cookies with a diameter of about 4 cm and place them on the baking tray. Bake them for 25 minutes. Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool down a bit.
  8. Take a large bowl and fill it with plenty of powdered sugar. in a large bowl. 
  9. Dip the kourabiedes in the sugar, making sure they are well covered on all sides.
  10. Once they totally cool down, transfer them to a plate and sprinkle them with additional sugar.
