Greek Yogurt Chocolate Cake

Tomorrow I have a reunion with some dear friends, and I made a Greek yogurt chocolate cake for this special occasion.

In the beginning, I couldn’t decide what to make. An appetizer, a dip or a dessert? For one thing, I was sure. I wanted to make something unique. As a result, I decided to do some research. By the way, there is a lovely site I follow and its name is National Day Calendar. This site lists all the national days and has been very inspirational to me as I believe that every day, we should find a reason to celebrate! So, after visiting my favorite site, I found out (actually remembered) that the 26th of January is the National Chocolate Cake Day. Voila! The Universe has answered my question. I was sure that my friends would argue that a chocolate cake is not a traditional Greek dessert. But what happens when you add a popular Greek ingredient to this recipe? The answer is a Greek chocolate cake with yogurt.

To make this delicious Greek chocolate cake with yogurt you need the following ingredients: butter, sugar, eggs, couverture chocolate, flour, baking powder, and Greek yogurt. In case you don’t know what couverture chocolate is, it is a bar of very high-quality chocolate that is used in confectionery and contains a higher percentage of cocoa butter. Lately, I have been using couverture chocolate from a Greek company named Giotis (Γιώτης). This product uses stevia instead of sugar as an ingredient making it much healthier as a choice. On the other hand, Greek yogurt doesn’t just make this cake more moisture! As it is full of proteins, it is a healthy addition to this cake. I usually prefer a Greek yogurt that contains no more than 2% fat.

This Greek yogurt chocolate cake takes 35 minutes to prepare and around 60 minutes to bake.  For this recipe, use a round baking pan with a hole in the middle.
