Tirokroketes: Greek Cheese Balls

If you are a cheese lover, there are two Greek dishes you need to check out. The first one is the notorious saganaki and the second one is tirokroketes! Tirokroketes, which is the name of the Greek fried cheese balls, is a mouthwatering appetizer that you can serve on any occasion, special or not. Even your children will love these addicting fried cheese balls which makes them ideal even for your kid's party!

Consequently, tirokroketes is one of my favorite appetizers! I first tasted these mouthwatering Greek cheese balls when I was a college student and I was spending my summer vacation days with a friend in his homeland, the beautiful island of Chios. It was a hot day and my friend's grandmother was making lunch for us and she served tirokroketes as an appetizer. As there were so delicious and I could not stop eating them, I asked her if she could share her recipe with me, so I can give it to my mother. She revealed that the secret of tirokroketes is to make them crispy on the outside and creamy in the inside. To achieve this, just do not fill the pan with the frying oil and when you fry them you need to let space among the tirokroketes.

For this tirokroketes recipe, you need the following ingredients: feta, graviera, gouda, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and frying oil.

This tirokroketes recipe, which gives around 20 pieces, takes around 15 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to fry.
