Orzo Side Dish Recipes

Orzo is one my favorite pasta. You can eat it with any meat or even make it a salad. In other words, it is the ideal side dish! Find here my some of my favorite orzo side dish recipes!

Orzo Side Dish Recipes No 1: Orzo Feta Salad Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of orzo pasta, uncooked
  • 1 cup of fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • ¼ cup of celery, finely chopped
  • 5 finely chopped, pitted green olives
  • ¼ cup of Greek olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped of fresh mint, for garnish (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 ounces of Greek feta cheese, crumbled

Instructions

  1. Cook orzo according to package directions.
  2. When orzo is ready, drain well.
  3. Rinse cooked orzo with cold water to cool down.Drain again.
  4. Return orzo pasta to the pot. Add the tomatoes, celery, and olives.
  5. Take a bowl.
  6. Add olive oil, lemon juice, sea salt, black pepper and dried oregano to bowl. Stir well.
  7. Pour the lemon oil dressing over the pasta mixture.
  8. Toss to mix well.
  9. Taste to see if additional salt is needed. Add to taste. Stir well again.
  10. Place the salad to a large bowl.
  11. Garnish with fresh mint (optional).
  12. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
  13. Top with feta cheese.

Orzo Side Dish Recipes No 2: Manestra

Ingredients

  • 500 g of orzo, uncooked
  • 1/3 cup of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of Greek mizithra cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Cook orzo for around 14-16 minutes (follow the directions on package).
  2. Just before orzo is ready, put butter in a small saucepan.
  3. Melt butter over medium-high heat.
  4. Drain orzo in a colander. Set aside.
  5. Cook butter until it turns brown.
  6. Pour butter over orzo. Stir well.
  7. Take a serving bowl.
  8. Place hot, drained orzo in the bowl.
  9. Top with mizithra cheese.
  10. Serve right away.

Orzo Side Dish Recipes No 3: Greek Orzo Salad Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of orzo pasta
  • 1 cup of fresh mini tomatoes, chopped (you can also use regular size tomatoes)
  • ¼ cup of parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill, chopped
  • 5 finely chopped, pitted green olives
  • ¼ cup of Greek olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt.
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the orzo according to package directions.
  2. Drain orzo well. Rinse it with cold water to cool down. Drain again.
  3. Place again orzo in the pot along with the tomatoes, celery, and olives.
  4. Take a bowl. Add the olive oil, lemon juice, and oregano in a bowl. Stir well.
  5. Pour the dressing over the pasta mixture. Add sea salt
  6. Toss to mix well.
  7. Taste to see if additional salt is needed. Add to taste. Mix well again.
  8. Take a large bowl. Place the salad.
  9. Garnish with fresh mint (optional).
  10. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
  11. Serve.
