I was visiting my parents in the southern part of Greece a close relative showed me how to make Greek yogurt! It may sound strange to you, but making Greek yogurt is easier than you may think it is. And it is definitely worth the try! I grew up in a village in South Greece. People there eat homemade Greek yogurt all year long. I got this recipe from one of my aunts who used to treat me yogurt when I was a kid. So, now it is my turn to show you how to make Greek yogurt at home!

  1. Take a pot.

  3. Remove pot from heat and allow the temperature to fall to 45°C.
  4. Take a cup, add the 2 tablespoons of live yogurt and mix it with some warm milk.
  5. Add the live yogurt mix to the pot and stir it with a whisk.
  6. Turn oven to 45°C for a couple of minutes and turn it off.
  7. Keep the oven light on, cover the pot with a lid and place it in the oven.
  8. Occasionally check the temperature and keep the pot in the oven for at least 4 hours and not more than 12.
  9. During this time, don’t move the pot at all.
  10. Add your yogurt at the strainer at a cool place, preferably a refrigerator.
  11. Let the yogurt drain for a couple of hours. The longer you let it drain the thicker the yogurt will become.
  12. The yogurt drain is now milk whey which you can dispose or consume as it is full of proteins!
