Tsoureki Recipe: Traditional Greek Easter Bread

This is a favorite and delicious tsoureki recipe. There aren’t many Greek desserts for this festive, so this traditional Easter bread is a must have on your table. Many like to insert a red-dyed in the middle and then bake it. This makes it really beautiful! Either way, it is one of the mouthwatering things you can eat. Tsoureki Recipe – Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour (1.150 k)
  • 1 cup of milk butter at room temperature (150 g)
  • 270 g of sugar plus 30 g of sugar, divided
  • 200 g of lukewarm milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 spoons of active dry yeast (48 g)
  • 7 g of lemon zest
  • 7 g of orange zest
  • 6 g of sea salt
  • 80 g of peeled almonds
  • 100 g of olive oil


Tsoureki Recipe – Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast into milk. Add 100 g of flour.
  2. Beat the eggs.
  3. Take a pot. Add the butter, sugar, orange zest, lemon zest, and eggs.
  4. Place the pot in the oven and stir until mixture is lukewarm.
  5. Sift the flour into a very large wooden or plastic salad bowl. Add flour to mixer.
  6. Add the yeast with milk and butter mixture to flour. Mix for around 20 minutes at low speed.
  7. Add oil and continue mixing until ingredients become unified.
  8. Take a baking pan or cake pan. Grease it with some oil and slightly pour some flour over it.
  9. Place the dough into baking pan.
  10. Cover baking pan with a large towel and place it in a warm place.
  11. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  12. Preheat oven to 320 °F.
  13. Brush the top of tsoureki with egg.
  14. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds.
  15. Bake until the top is richly golden for around 40 minutes.
