Greek Shrimp Saganaki: A Saganaki Garides with Feta Recipe

As a sea country, Greece is full of nice fish taverns. As you can imagine, we often take our families out to eat our favorite sea food. So, if you ever visit Greece, this is definitely something you should do. So, the last time we visited our favorite fish tavern, we ate saganaki garides with feta, a traditional Greek shrimp saganaki dish, and I said to myself that I definitely need to share this recipe with you.

Now that Sarakosti has started, this delicious, hearty seafood dish with garides is ideal as an appetizer as a side dish. Before you decide to make it, you need to get some feta and ouzo. Both of these products can be found at any Greek food store. This Greek shrimp saganaki recipe takes around 30 mins to make and it serves 4 persons.

Greek shrimp saganaki (saganaki garides)

Greek Shrimp Saganaki (Saganaki Garides) – Ingredients

  • 800 g of prawns, preferably size 1
  • 100 g of onion, finely chopped
  • 300 g of fresh tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 200 g of Greek feta cheese
  • 100 g of green pepper, chopped
  • 1 hot green chili pepper, chopped
  • 100 ml of Greek olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 1 teaspoon of parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 50 ml of ouzo
  • Salt and pepper

Greek Shrimp Saganaki (Saganaki Garides) – Instructions

  1. Start making Greek shrimp saganaki by removing the shell and the intestine from the prawns.  Leave only the head and tail.
  2. Take a frying pan and add the olive oil. Bring to boil over high heat and add the onion, garlic, green pepper and chili pepper.
  3. Fry the ingredients for about 2 minutes. Then, add the prawns and mix very well.
  4. Now, add the ouzo. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the tomatoes, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  7. Place the mixture into a ceramic saganaki bowl.
  8. Cut the feta cheese into small cubes and place on top of the bowl.
  9. Place bowl under the grill. Cook until the feta is melt and its color slightly gets darker.
  10. Serve this dish hot.
  11. Adding some chopped fresh parsley on top (optional).
